(1) The 1st Board Meeting and General Meeting, Concert

Details We approved the FY 2012 Business Report and Income/Expenditure Report and deliberated on the FY 2013 Business Plan and Income/Expenditure Budget. In tribute to the 35th anniversary of our friendship city affiliation with Nanjing, the Zhang Bin Erhu Orchestra gave a performance using the Chinese instrument, Erhu.

(2) The 2nd Board Meeting

Details We deliberated on the outline of the FY 2014 Business Plan and Income/Expenditure Budget Proposal Plan, and reported on the Commemorative Project for the 35th Anniversary of the Nagoya-Nanjing Friendship City Affiliation.

2. Commemorative Project for the 35th Anniversary of the Nagoya-Nanjing Friendship City Affiliation

(1) Chinese Tea Lecture

Details We invited part-time lecturer Kenichi Murokawa of Aichi University to give a lecture on Chinese tea. Using Chinese tea utensils, participants were able to try out the different aromas and tastes of six Chinese teas. Goodwill Ambassadors from the Nagoya Exchange Student Friendship Project, Wang Jing and Liang Wen Qian participated by explaining how to drink Chinese tea, and differences in Chinese and Japanese culture.

(2) Sister City Festival 2013

Details Stage events related to Nagoya's sister cities, with performances including Chinese acrobatics, the Zhang Bin Erhu Orchestra, the Los Angeles Nisei Week Queen and Court, and a photo exhibition introducing Nanjing City were exhibited.

(3) Photo Exhibition

Details A photo exhibition introducing the landscapes, natural environment, and historical heritage of the City of Nanjing and its province of Jiangsu.

(4) Cultural Exchange Festival

Details Goodwill Ambassador for 40 Years of Japan-China Diplomatic Relations, Actor Tomohiro Sekiguchi gave a commemorative speech about his epic railway travels across China. Performances of Peking opera and face-changing by a Chinese folk arts troupe, and a performance by the Chan Bin Erhu Orchestra introduced the wonder of traditional Chinese arts and culture.

(1) Los Angeles High School Student Exchange Program and Japan-Mexico Academy
(Liceo Mexicano Japonés) Welcome & Exchange Party

Participants 167 (including 4 Los Angeles exchange students, 22 Japan-Mexico Academy Students, 4 counselors)
Details We held a Welcome & Exchange Party for students from the Japan-Mexico Academy (Liceo Mexicano Japonés) and Los Angeles High School Exchange Program. During the party, a performance was given by the Los Angeles exchange students, a dance by students from the Seiryo High School Dance Club, and a folk dance by Japan-Mexico Academy students. Through this exchange, students were able to develop a sense of mutual understanding and develop friendly relationships.

(2) Sister and Friendship Cities Goodwill Missions Welcome Reception

Details We held a Sister and Friendship Cities Goodwill Missions Welcome Reception to welcome the Sister and Friendship Cities Goodwill Missions who came to Japan for the Nagoya Festival and Sister City Festival 2013.

(3) Cultural Exchange Event with Torino

  (a) Nagoya Promotional Video Screening

Visitors 100 (for October 28 (Mon) Opening Ceremony)
Details Screened a film taking place in Nagoya about the local specialty noodle, kishimen, and a film promoting Nagoya's attractions. These screenings coincided with the opening of a photo exhibition on Japan. During the opening ceremony on October 28, visitors were able to try out kishimen and learn more about Nagoya's attractions.

  (b) Forum for the Next Generation of Industrial Exchange Between Torino and Nagoya

Details An official delegation from the City of Torino including Mayor Fassino visited Nagoya and participated in a forum introducing next-generation industrial exchange strategy and development between the two cities

  (c) Torino's Charm: Twin City Exchange between Torino and Nagoya (Exhibition)

Details In conjunction with the opening of the Forum for the Next Generation of Industrial Exchange Between Torino and Nagoya, an exhibition in the International Design Center's Design Gallery was opened, introducing the wonder of Torino and manufacturing, and the relationship between Nagoya and Torino.

4. Other Projects

(1) 35th Sister and Friendship Cities Children's Art Exhibition (held together with the Nagoya City Board of Education)

Details The Nagoya City Board of Education and Nagoya City Museum worked together to open an exhibition featuring children's art from Nagoya's sister and friendship cities. The exhibition also featured panels introducing the sister and friendship cities, allowing Nagoya citizens to cultivate a deeper understanding towards them.

(2) Christmas Party (held together with the Nagoya Japan-Australia-New Zealand Society)

Details We held a Christmas Party together with the Japan-Australia-New Zealand Society, where we were able to deepen understanding toward Sydney and Australia and advance exchange between the members of our respective associations.

(3) Mexico Exchange Party

Details An exchange party was held inviting Mexican exchange students in Japan, Japanese companies operating in Mexico, Japanese students studying Spanish, etc. During the party a presentation about working in Mexico was given by Japanese companies to raise awareness for Japanese students. Mexican folk dance and mariachi music was performed during the party to cultivate exchange between participants.

(4) Japan-China Friendship New Year's Gathering (held together with the Japan-China Friendship Association of Aichi (NPO) and Japan-China Friendship Association of Nagoya)

Details The Japan-China Friendship Association of Aichi (NPO) and Japan-China Friendship Association of Nagoya held a "Japan-China Friendship New Year's Gathering," allowing participants to cultivate a deeper understanding of Nanjing and China.

(5) American Cooking Class in Celebration of the 55th Anniversary of the Nagoya-Los Angeles Sister City Affiliation

Details We held American cooking classes to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of the Nagoya-Los Angeles Sister City Affiliation. By cooking authentic American cuisine, we were able to cultivate an understanding toward America.

(6) Operation of the Nagoya Sister Cities Association Website

Details We have consistently updated promotional materials and activity reports on the various activities the Nagoya Sister Cities Association conducts.
