Sister City Exchange with Nagoya

University Exchange

In January 2001, the Nagoya City University School of Design and Architecture began an academic exchange agreement with the Polytechnic University of Turin, and ever since, the two schools have been conducting exchange via joint research and the mutual dispatch of researchers and students. The Polytechnic University of Turin is one of the oldest universities in Italy, and Nagoya City University dispatches a number of researchers and students every year.

Soccer Exchange

Since soccer is very popular in Turin, Nagoya and Turin have been conducting exchange through soccer. In 2007, a Nagoya city high school soccer delegation visited Turin and had a friendly match with a local youth team, and in 2012, a soccer coach and former player for Juventus was invited to Nagoya to teach a soccer class for elementary, junior high, and high school students.

Torino Wrapping Bus Project

“Torino Wrapping Bus” design exchange project where a student from Torino designed a decal to decorate city buses operating in Nagoya. Eight designs from Torino’s IAAD (Institute of Applied Art and Design) students were put up for a vote by city residents, and the most popular design was realized on city buses through the help of corporate sponsorships. The “Bus Wrapping” buses operated from October 17, 2014 to April 18, 2015.
